Compassion

Compassion is not quantitative.
Certainly it is true that behind every human being
that cries out for help
there may be a million or more equally entitled to attention...
How to determine which of one million sounds surrounding you
is more deserving than the rest?

Do not concern yourself in such speculations.
You will never know, you will never need to know.
Reach out and take hold of the one who happens to be nearest.

Today is International Women's Day 2009

It is now more dangerous to be a woman
than to be a soldier
in modern conflict.

- Maj Gen Patrick Cammaert,
Former commander of UN forces, eastern Congo (DRC)

A day to remember women around the world, especially those who are suffering unspeakable pain and violence. View the slideshow from The UN Refugee Agency.

Compassion

How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong.
Because someday in life, you will have been all of these.

- George Washington Carver
