Forgive and Forget

I can forgive, but I cannot forget,

is only another way of saying,

I will not forgive.

Forgiveness ought to be like a cancelled note--

torn in two, and burned up,

so that it never can be shown against one.

so very true but so very difficult (at times) to do.

I am learning that forgiveness is sometimes very difficult to do and sometimes takes a lot of time- but is necessary to truly move on.

I always think of forgiving as a way of freeing myself ... until I forgive, my feelings fester like a cancer inside me. I am the loser. I win when I shed and let go. I am then lighter ... and truly free.

Guess I am saying that I forgive often for purely selfish reasons!
